IDS West 2017: Home Decor Inspiration
As you settle in for a cozy fall, all bundled up in an oversized sweater and sipping a pumpkin spice something or other, are your thoughts wandering around your living room? Visit the Interior Design Show (IDS) Vancouver this week for an abundance of inspiration to drive some home decor invigoration!
Located at the Vancouver Convention Centre West, IDS features countless exhibitors, features, and international speakers showcasing their astounding work at the event.
Remember this is not a one-day event as IDS runs from September 28th to October 1st. Tickets are available here and before you check-out, consider a donation to Out In Schools of $5. Your donation will go to BC’s award-winning education program that uses film and video with a facilitated group discussion to engage students on issues of homophobia, transphobia, and bullying.
Every year we attend and lose ourselves in tableau after tableau of beautiful choreographed rooms, take too many pictures, and delight in planning our next project. Here are our picks on who and what to keep an eye out for!
Stone Age Folk
Leading quartz surface manufacturer, Caesarstone, in collaboration with world-renowned Spanish designer Jaime Hayon, will debut their celebrated installation; Stone Age Folk. Stone Age Folk welcomes visitors into a fantasy world made of different colours, forms, and shapes. Imagined with the eccentric spirit and signature playfulness of Hayon, this life-size kaleidoscope showcases unique, handcrafted pieces designed with Caesarstone materials. Hayon’s signature clowns faces and interactive, circus-like elements, such as two glossy carousels, will make up the folkloric installation.
In collaboration with Portland-based Ann Sacks, Camille Walala transforms the Central Bar feature into Walaland – a joyful place filled with Camille’s signature tribal-pop prints, high-octane colour combinations, and eye-popping graphics. Incorporating ceramic tiles by Ann Sacks, Camille has hand-painted a 60-foot mural that serves as the backdrop for the bar. A young designer whose creations explode with energy and are engineered to evoke a smile in every person who sees them.
East Van Light
East Van Light builds vintage industrial lamps with engaging modern designs. Combining locally sourced premium hardwoods, high-quality hardware, and antique reproduction Edison light bulbs, each lamp delivers warm ambient light and a refined old-world aesthetic that inspires the work, repose, curiosity, and conversation of those around it. East Van Light strives to design lamps that are subtle in support of the spaces they inhabit, while simultaneously engaging the audience that surrounds them.
Urbanwalls makes all kinds of removable wall decals and chalk decals for homes. With the appeal of wallpaper and a level of permanence that supports designer ADD, the company is continually creating decals that allow changes and swaps (without hurting any walls). From designers to those who claim no creativity, Urbanwalls enables customers to think outside of the box, inspiring them to fall in love with the spaces that surround them.
