Cruising into Luxury Supercar Weekend
With over $250M of high-end automobiles on display at this year’s Luxury & Super Weekend, founder Craig Stowe and his production team at Luxury Alliance Group continue to fine-tune one of the cities must-attend spectacles. Different from no-fee car shows, Luxury & Supercar Weekend charges a hefty entrance fee and more than delivers. Two full days of pristine vehicles to admire, including those that have been inspiring collectors for decades, the newest, fastest and sleekest, and also those that only exist as one-off’s valued in the millions.
The VanDusen Botanical Garden has been home to this event since its second season in 2011. The addition of the backdrop of manicured lawns and curated vendors created a ‘see and be seen’ atmosphere which was soon drawing people from all around the province.
Zoom to 2017 and the vintage offerings on this years Concours d’Élégance included Austin Healeys from 1953-1957, pre-1961 Corvettes, 1970s muscle cars, and Cadillacs from 1950-1958. The super- and hypercars were represented by the heavy-hitters in luxury: Rolls-Royce, McLaren, Pagani, Porsche, Lamborghini, and Audi. Game-changing BC-based electric vehicle makers Electra Meccanica displayed their 3-wheeled Solo model with to the delight of young and old.
The event continues to draw (5,000+ persons this year) not only self-described ‘gearheads’ but also couples, families, and fashionista who enjoy the Only Oakridge runway shows. This year collection highlights were fall/winter collections from Birks, Stuart Weitzman, MaxMara, DKNY, and Canadian retailer Judith and Charles.
The VIP section included an introduction to the TROVE supercar condo pavilion, a brilliant Birks Jewelry pop-up, a Veuve Clicquot Champagne Lounge, and a Remy Martin Cognac PorscheRally Lounge. Pop-up restaurants satisfied the desire to nosh with gourmet bites from local favourites Hawksworth, Glowbal, Tacofino, and La Pentola. Those with heartier appetites settled in at the McLaren VIP Lounge where Market by Jean-Georges (Shangri-La Hotel) was serving tantalizing tasting plates.
Spirits and bubbles abounded with VIP guests sampling from various signature offerings by the cities top-selling brands such as Veuve Clicquot, Grand Marnier, Suntory Whisky, and the Okanagan’s Mission Hill.
What may have begun as an event to fill a gap in the luxury lifestyle market has now grown into an annual destination weekend, not only for car lovers, but for those with business in the luxury product, service, and hospitality industries, PR and marketing, and media.
